With over 15 years of professional culinary experience, Ryan “Meaty” McGahan’s specialty is in barbecue. Growing up on a low country barrier island, Saint Simons Island, Georgia, he developed a love for great southern food.
McGahan’s culinary career began by selling smoked turkeys and hams at Thanksgiving and Christmas at the age of 14. Abbigail, the reverse flow smoker he received as a high school graduation present, is still his smoker of choice for his tasty creations.
McGahan spent the last four years perfecting whole hog BBQ in and around Charleston, South Carolina. Having recently moved to New Orleans to further explore the Cajun cuisine and Boucherie traditions of South Louisiana, Ryan recently spent some time as a pitmaster with Central City Barbecue.
